The Charitable Remainder Trust
sounds good, but do I have to irrevocably give up my principal?
All Charitable Remainder Trusts are irrevocable;
when the income beneficiaries die, the principal balance passes
to the named charities. Although you give up ownership, you can
retain substantial control by naming yourself as trustee. This
is one of the few tax-exempt trusts where you may be your own
trustee.
